How it Plays: Innovations in Percussion Exhibition

This exhibition and performance project shines a light on key innovations and experimentation in tuned percussion, focusing on Melbourne. It brings together a range of percussion instruments that have been created, composed for, and played by radical musicians, who have sought to change the way we can all hear, and play, music.

How it Plays includes a Digital Staff Bells Player by Anthony Lyons that uses recorded samples of Percy Grainger's Staff Bells mapped to a controller keyboard for interactive use alongside the Grainger's Staff Bells. There is also a new creative audiovisual work by collaborators Anthony Lyons and Paul Fletcher that uses the Digital Bells instrument and responds to visual design ideas of Percy and Ella Grainger. The exhibition runs until December. More details here.
